Connie Wu from the Brennan Center for Justice will discuss direct democracy and its role within the better-understood political landscape of representative democracy. In Michigan direct democracy has been used by citizens in the form of petition initiatives
to create the redistricting commission and give Michiganders increased voting rights and voting access, for example. But at the federal level and in other states, direct democracy is not necessarily a given, and some rights to direct democracy have come under
fire.</div>
