The Westland Library recently hosted Detroit urban explorer and photographer Bob Huston. His program, called "Detroit Unseen" chronicles history, decay, and, in some cases, rebirth of abandoned buildings around Detroit and beyond. It is a fascinating look at
our city from a perspective we don't often see. Our patrons really enjoyed the presentation, and Bob is an engaging storyteller with a clear passion for what he does. </div>

In our conversation before and after the presentation, Bob let me know that he hadn't done a library presentation since COVID-19, and there has been so much change in the city since then. Many of these buildings are finally being restored. In preparation for
our program, he was able to add content to his presentation that documented these renovations. It was incredibly cool to see the timeline of historic photos along with the abandoned and then restoration photos -- often photographs of the same architectural
features or angles. Now that many of our patrons are going to experience these building renovations (Michigan Central, Book Tower, Wurlitzer Building etc.), I think it is an especially interesting time to learn about their history. Bob focuses on themes of
hope for the city and people.</div>
