three library locations (two new since 2011) and one learning center, a staff of 104, and a $7 million annual budget, the successful candidate will work closely with external and internal stakeholders to shape a new library vision. The director will focus
on a new library strategic plan and aligning the library to the community’s needs for future library services and programs. Key opportunities include developing and implementing strategic goals, enhancing public access to new technologies, mentoring and coaching
staff by creating staff development opportunities, and seeking new service delivery models. The library has excellent support from the Library Advisory Board, the Friends of the Library, and the City of Irving.<u></u><u></u></span></p>

<b><span style="color:black">Responsibilities:</span></b><span style="color:black"> Reporting to the Assistant City Manager, the Library Director plans, directs, and reviews the activities of the Library Services Department including the overall administrative
functions at all locations. The director manages full- and part-time staff and manages the annual operating budget and capital improvement bond funds. Areas of responsibility include administrative management, fiscal management, personnel management, and space/facilities
design and oversight. The director serves as a city department head and liaison to the community and works to establish positive collaborative relationships.<u></u><u></u></span></p>

<b><span style="color:black">Qualifications:</span></b><span style="color:black"> Minimum qualifications include a Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program and a minimum of seven years of library experience with five years of supervisory
experience. The successful candidate also will have a demonstrated record of developing and mentoring staff, facilities management, implementing new library service models, an outstanding customer service philosophy, and successful community engagement. Experience
working in a municipal environment is preferred.<u></u><u></u></span></p>

<b>Tuesday, March 22, at 7:00 pm</b> EDT, the Clarke Historical Library at Central Michigan University will host award-winning children’s author Carole Lindstrom. Lindstrom, a member of the Turtle Mountain Band of Ojibwe, will speak about her acclaimed 2020
book, <i>We Are Water Protectors</i>. She wrote the book, illustrated by Michaela Goade (member of the Tlingit and Haida Tribes), in response to the Dakota Access Pipeline protests at Standing Rock that started in 2016. The book “issues an urgent rallying
cry to safeguarding the Earth’s water from harm and corruption.” In recognition of their work, the book was awarded the 2021 Jane Addams Children’s Book Award in the Books for Younger Children category and the 2021 Caldecott Medal. This is the first book
authored and illustrated by members of Tribal communities to win the Caldecott Medal.
