<p class="MsoNormal">As a large, urban public library system, Phoenix Public Library serves communities with high rates of childhood poverty and low rates of third grade reading proficiency. Because early literacy and language acquisition are critical factors
in reading success, they have a laser focus on supporting children birth to age five and training caregivers to become the best first teachers.<br>
In 2018, Phoenix Public Library added LENA Start to its early literacy program offerings. While the Early Literacy Outreach Team had always had a heart and mission to reach families with young children, adding LENA Start brought an increased knowledge of child
development and new practices on how to best support families. Early literacy librarians have now been better able to communicate with families and have more strategies and tools and feel better equipped to support them.<br>

<p class="MsoNormal">Nearly all school and law enforcement personnel using the confidential reporting system OK2SAY indicate it is useful and helpful in stopping harm before it occurs. Seventy-three percent report they were unaware of the problem before the
tip was submitted. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">OK2SAY empowers Michigan students to help prevent violence and make their schools safe by confidentially reporting threatening behavior. Anyone can report tips on criminal activities or potential harm directed at students, school employees
or schools. Tips can be submitted 24 hours a day, seven days a week. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The program’s <a href="https://www.michigan.gov/documents/ok2say/2020_AnnualReport_MSP_ADA_ver13_724455_7.pdf">
2020 Annual Report</a> shows that OK2SAY received 3,743 tips spanning 31 categories, with the top three types of tips being: <o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Other findings from the 2020 annual report include that 10 tips involved the confiscation of weapons and 42 tips involved the seizure of drugs or alcohol. In 2020, at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the program experienced a 42 percent
decrease in tip volume as students transitioned to a virtual learning environment.

<li class="MsoNormal" style="mso-list:l6 level1 lfo8">incorporate children, youth, and family programming during the COVID-19 pandemic challenge,<o:p></o:p></li><li class="MsoNormal" style="mso-list:l6 level1 lfo8">design, implement, and assess programs, including the use of take-home kits,<o:p></o:p></li><li class="MsoNormal" style="mso-list:l6 level1 lfo8">reinvent their role with customers,<o:p></o:p></li><li class="MsoNormal" style="mso-list:l6 level1 lfo8">strengthen collaborations among peers and community partners,<o:p></o:p></li><li class="MsoNormal" style="mso-list:l6 level1 lfo8">help make the library a magnet drawing people into a realm to elevate an individual’s capacity for learning, discovering excellence, and contributing to life no matter the challenge.<o:p></o:p></li></ul>
<p class="MsoNormal">An emphasis will be placed on virtual programming, however, examples of all program types – virtual, outdoor, in-person, and hybrid (in-person and virtual) – will be used for all sizes of libraries, budgets, and ambition.<br>
