<p class="MsoNormal">The Rural Library Summit is a half-day celebration of the impact libraries have on the aspirations of young people and a recognition of their contribution to third grade reading outcomes, especially for students in rural communities. Research
has shown that children who read on or above grade level in third grade triple their chances of attending college. The Summit will explore how libraries can grow their impact on third grade reading leveraging community support and resources. Participants will
learn about and connect with a range of opportunities with regional and national organizations, including the newly launched Rural Library Fellowship. The program will support the efforts of 22 Fellows to engage in initiatives to increase third grade reading
in their communities.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Every year on the second Monday in December, computer science education week (CSEdWeek) engages K-12 students around the world in computer science with hour of code activities by providing interesting hour-long coding tasks for students.
This year, the Michigan accelerate computer science (MACS) collaboration is encouraging Michigan students to complete an online computer program lesson with the “Coding for Kids” Virtual Event on Friday, December 11, 2020. “Coding for Kids” is also an attempt
to break a Guinness world record by having the most people complete a computer science lesson within 24 hours. MACS is reaching out to educators of all content areas to help their students sign up with parental permission. Educators can find details on how

<p class="MsoNormal">The Michigan Learning Channel team is quickly moving forward on plans for its January 2021 launch. The Michigan Learning Channel is a statewide public television partnership offering instructional content to support the education of students
and to provide alternative resources for families and teachers. When the channel launches, it will provide instructional programming in early literacy, social and emotional learning, and math for K-3. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">“Brain breaks” for social and emotional learning have been finalized, and a series of in-home exercise videos for kids are in production. Updated plans include some educational programming suitable for middle and high school students in
