Joann Sweetland Lum Memorial Grant</a> is an annual $1,000 award that aims to recognize a librarian who has a creative, innovative project that promotes literacy. Examples of literacy include, but are not limited to, digital, media, visual, computer, data,
financial, civic/ethical, news, information, multicultural, and cultural. Applicants do not need to be a member of ALA/YALSA. However, before accepting the grant monies, the recipient must become a member of ALA/YALSA. Grant funds can be used to cover this

and their caregivers, ALSC created the <b><i><a href="http://www.ala.org/alsc/edcareeers/alsccorecomps" target="_blank" title="open Competencies page in new window">Competencies for Librarians Serving Children in Libraries</a></i></b> to guide them in areas
of access, advocacy, and outreach in ways that encompass and reflect positive world views. Practicing librarians find that the guidelines set forth through competencies inform their librarianship by extending their professionalism in ways that allow them to

to youth and their caregivers in the library environment. Students will learn about the developmental stages of youth, matching youth and their caregivers to information sources, designing developmentally appropriate library programming and outreach initiatives
to address specific community needs, and how to model information-seeking behaviors to youth. This course will get you started in all of these areas, as well as give the specific competencies laid out by the LSSC program.<o:p></o:p></p>

Stories, Songs, and Stretches! provides adults with the skills and resources they need to understand and enhance early learning through embodied play. The online training version is made up of three 4-week modules. These modules are for anyone who works with
preschool and/or early elementary age kids on a regular basis, or who wants to learn how to use the program with kids and families. This includes teachers, librarians, early childhood educators, social workers, and yoga teachers, among others. Nearly everyone
who works with young children can earn continuing education credits when they attend our workshops. All modules must be completed before one can become certified. A break period of two weeks is offered between modules in the series. <o:p></o:p></p>
