<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:windowtext">Michigan Association for Media in Education’s (MAME) 45th Annual Conference kicked off with a bang this year! Colby Sharp, our opening keynote, talked about the importance of book access for all students.
School libraries play a pivotal role in ensuring literacy for all of our students. Having a full-time certified media specialist is a game changer in every school. While book access is a high priority, media specialists do so much more than just helping students<br>
look for books. At the conference there were sessions on digital literacy, media literacy, and all things technology. Virtual reality sessions happened both days and merge cubes, a tool for augmented reality, were available for purchase in the garage sale.
The use of technology tools play a big role in the library and a session on MITECS encouraged understanding the curriculum behind the technology tools and how best to integrate it in the classroom. Other sessions included book<br>
talks, instructions on doing a digital breakout, and shop talks with different librarians based on grade levels. Roundtable talks included learning how to lesson plan with planbook.com and learning how to integrate Gale resources into Schoology.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:windowtext">This year’s MLA Conference 2018 was my first time ever attending a library conference. I learned many new insights that I will apply to my recently acquired position as Youth Services Supervisor at Charlevoix
Public Library. I am excited to implement some of the programming techniques and knowledge about the Read by 3rd Grade Law in Michigan to our programming and community collaborations for our patrons.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:windowtext">Attending the 2017 YALSA Symposium in Louisville, KY was a wonderful experience. The conference, which took place over the course of 3 days, provided a variety of programs and lectures related to youth services.
Participants were able to pick from topics focused around key issues in the field. I was able to glean many ideas that our library will be able to apply to youth programing and collections.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:windowtext">When I registered for the YALSA Symposium that was to be held in Pittsburgh this year, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The different sessions had names like “Power of ‘ProTeen” and “Building their Own World:
Teen- Driven Community Engagement,” which excited me because my main goal was to learn how to better serve my teens. I expected to come away from each session with a better idea of how to connect with my teens, plan programming, and find resources. That ended
up being completely true but what I didn’t expect was to learn as much as I did from my fellow symposium attendees. I’ve returned home with a whole new perspective on how to do my job and a new excitement to work with teens.

much and come back with so many ideas for things to try in my library with Teens. I am excited<br>
