<p class="MsoNormal">The Library of Michigan’s <i>Ready to Read Michigan</i> program encourages reading aloud regularly to children during the early stages of life (birth up to age 5), as it ensures the development of early literacy skills and instills a love
of reading. The program is designed for public librarians to model early literacy skill development directly to families and engage in outreach to early childhood centers, classrooms and daycares throughout their community. We are now accepting recommendations
for the 2020 Ready to Read Michigan book program through 5pm Friday, May 10<sup>th</sup>.:

Youth Services Advisory Council</a> reviews title suggestions and narrows it down to a few picks that the State Librarian and Library of Michigan team then selects.

<p class="MsoNormal">CSLP’s Child and Community Well-Being Committee (CCWB) has created two resources to support and facilitate public library participation in the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) and other ways to help connect kids and teens with healthy
food when school is out. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">One is an online <b>Libraries and Summer Food how-to guide</b> now available on the CSLP website. The other is a two-sided
<b>Summer Meals factsheet </b>for libraries, featuring key statistics about child hunger and SFSP, brief talking points for library involvement, and a brief step-by-step guide to determining SFSP eligibility and getting started.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">A how-to guide to help libraries connect kids and teens with healthy food when school is out. The guide begins with an overview of the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), a federally funded, state-administered program. Next is a checklist
for libraries to determine their eligibility and take the first steps toward becoming an SFSP site. For libraries not in geographic areas that are eligible for SFSP, or for whom SFSP is not a good fit, there’s a section on alternatives to SFSP and other ways
to help. This section is also for those who don’t plan to serve food at the library, but still want to support summer feeding. Next is a collection of tips, checklists, best practices, and innovative ideas to plan for a successful summer, from space considerations,
to programming, to staffing, and more, including basic talking points and additional advocacy and awareness materials to build support. Finally, a resource list gathers links to essential and supplemental sources to help librarians connect children and teens

</b>Do the teens in your library like to make videos? Encourage them to participate in the Collaborative Summer Library Program 2019 Teen Video Challenge this summer! This year's Teen Video Challenge will be a NATIONAL contest and five winners will be chosen
to receive a $200 cash prize plus $50 worth of summer reading materials for their library. *<b>New</b>* this year the challenge will run through the summer, so you can hold video making programs in June and July. Videos can be submitted June 1-August 2, 2019.

day we will take the theme a step further and dive into the world of Virtual Reality with Kevin McDonough, Reference Librarian at Northern Michigan University, learning about different VR equipment, experiencing a virtual reality for yourself, and resources
to support programming in your library with VR.<o:p></o:p></p>

“<span style="font-size:10.5pt;font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif;color:#222222;background:white">The results are clear; libraries are eager to take advantage of PBS Books programs and trust PBS Books as a partner. According to the survey, 92% of libraries
have a social media presence, and a majority said they were interested in having access to quality social media content to share and utilizing an archive of more than 650 high quality digital PBS Books videos. The survey also showed that 70% of libraries participated
in activities related to <em><span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">The Great American Read, </span></em>a series that aired on PBS in 2018 and promoted viewer participation. This indicates libraries’ interest in utilizing PBS content about books
to spark community engagement. Most libraries reported that they would be interested in programs that allowed them to screen PBS shows, to provide digital access to author interviews and other literary content, and to highlight significant things happening
