<p class="MsoNormal">I have gotten some questions regarding the free NARCAN program by Emergent Biosolutions, that I posted about (see post below).<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Note that the form for public libraries DOES require a signature by a licensed physician or nurse-practitioner.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">This is because Emergent’s program must comply with the NARCAN laws of 50 states.
<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Although Michigan does not currently require a prescription, (here, NARCAN can only be obtained in Michigan at authorized pharmacies), other states have differing rules.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Therefore, since NARCAN is a prescription medication, to receive the free NARCAN, Michigan libraries must obtain the signature from a licensed Physician or nurse practitioner.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">I called the company, and according to their customer service personnel, that Physician or nurse practitioner needs only to sign (ie “prescribe) the NARCAN via the form at

the link</a> I sent.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Despite the wording of the form, there are no other responsibilities that medical professional has In regard to this program.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Libraries may want to seek the assistance of their local community health/public health offices, or, contact the community outreach department of your local hospital.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">If your library already has a relationship with a nurse practitioner or doctor, then you can consult them too.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">If anyone has a hard time locating a medical professional to assist in this program, let me know and I will see what I can do to help.<o:p></o:p></p>
