</span></b><span style="font-size:12.0pt; line-height:115%; font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">Michelle LaVaughn Robinson Obama is a lawyer, author, and the wife of the 44th President, Barack Obama. Through her initiatives as First Lady, she has become a
 role model for women and girls, and an advocate for healthy families, service members and their families, higher education, and international adolescent girls’ education. She will appear at the opening general session of the 2018 American Library Association
 (ALA) Annual Conference and Exhibition from 4 - 5:30 p.m. on Friday, June 22, at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans.

</span></b><span style="font-size:12.0pt; line-height:115%; font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">Eight winners have been chosen for the John Cotton Dana Library Public Relations Awards recognizing marketing and public relations excellence. Each winning library
 will receive a $10,000 award from the H.W. Wilson Foundation and will be celebrated June 24 at a reception sponsored by EBSCO Information Services during the American Library Association’s 2018 annual conference in New Orleans.<br>

</span></b><span style="font-size:12.0pt; line-height:115%; font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">Members of the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), elected Todd Krueger as the division’s next
 president-elect. Krueger will begin his term as president-elect in June 2018, becoming president for one year starting June 2019.<br>
Krueger is currently a Selector in the Collection Development Department at the Baltimore County Public Library, in Towson, Maryland.<br>

</span></b><span style="font-size:12.0pt; line-height:115%; font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">The American Library Association (ALA) is now accepting applications for the Great Stories Club, a grant program in which library workers lead reading and discussion
 programs with underserved teens in their communities.<br>
Working with small groups of approximately 10 teens, grantees will host reading and discussion programs for up to four thematically related books. The titles — selected in consultation with librarian advisors and humanities scholars — are chosen to resonate
 with reluctant readers struggling with complex issues like academic probation, detention, incarceration, violence and poverty.<br>

</span></b><span style="font-size:12.0pt; line-height:115%; font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">The American Library Association (ALA) and PBS have selected 50 public libraries to receive programming grants for “The Great American Read,” an eight-part television
 series and multi-platform initiative that celebrates the joy of reading and the books we love.<br>
Hosted by television personality and journalist Meredith Vieira, “The Great American Read” will engage audiences with a list of 100 diverse books, encouraging audiences to read the books, vote from the list of 100, and share their personal connections to the
 titles.<br>

</span></b><span style="font-size:12.0pt; line-height:115%; font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">The ALA Graphics summer 2018 catalog has arrived, featuring new products that will excite and inspire readers of all ages. The catalog cover highlights Disney·Pixar’s
 “The Incredibles” on a poster promoting Library Card Sign-up Month. Additional Incredibles products include a bookmark pack and sticker roll. The Incredibles will serve as Honorary Chairs for Library Card Sign-up Month this September.<br>
The new catalog also launched with new themes and art for Banned Books Week and Teen Read Week. This year’s Banned Books Week theme encourages everyone to raise their megaphones and speak out for banned books. New digital products, including a customizable
 poster file, field report, and mini posters are available in addition to a new poster, bookmark, sticker, and more. Print and digital products in preparation for Teen Read Week are also available, featuring the theme “It’s Written in the Stars…READ.”<br>

 Pedagogy, and Practice,” book number 73 in ACRL’s Publications in Librarianship series. Edited by Mary K. Oberlies and Janna Mattson, these books are collections of lesson plans grounded in learning theory, each volume devoted to one of the six frames of the
 ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education.<br>
