</b>In the wake of historic flooding fueled by Hurricane Harvey, the American Library Association (ALA) and the library community continue their commitment to disaster relief efforts within the Gulf Coast Region. “Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone
who is being affected by Hurricane Harvey in Texas and along the Gulf Coast,” said ALA President James (Jim) Neal. “The ALA has reached out to the Texas Library Association (TLA) and Texas State Library to offer support as they work with local libraries dealing

</span></b>United for Libraries, in partnership with Lehigh University and Bethlehem (Pa.) Area Public Library, will designate the library a Literary Landmark in honor of Hilda Doolittle (H.D.) on Friday, Sept. 8, 4 p.m.<br>
Growing up, H.D. (1886-1961) lived in a home located just across the plaza from the library, where city hall now stands. Her innovative and experimental poetry and prose established her as a leading Modernist artist in the 1910s and 1920s. She remains a key
literary figure in the Lehigh Valley.<br>
