We also ran out of glasses to give away long before the event but we saved 100 to share on the day. Due to the large number of calls we were receiving we re-evaluated how we planned to handle the safety glasses giveaway and we increased the number of snacks and drinks we planned to pass out. The people in attendance far outnumbered the glasses that we had available but people were very good about sharing. Our local high school robotics team had some wonderful eclipse related activities in our large community room with outdoor activities on the patio as well. We had our telescopes with filters available, made sun cookies, invited people to contribute to a large painting of the sun, and had other activities outside the building. We had a few negative comments but the positive comments far outweighed the negative. <p>We survived. Ended up with about 140 glasses, after sharing with other DPL branches and handing out a very few to others.</p>

<p>It was hard to count people as they were in and out and roaming the whole time. People were great about sharing glasses. We also made pinhole viewers, and showed how a colander makes a multiple viewer. And had NASA's coverage streaming.</p>

<p>Kids and some adults made viewers, decorated hats, made their own eclipse with coffee filters, and did a space-related craft from Arts and Scraps.</p>

<p>I found it interesting how quickly people melted away after the eclipse reached its peak. They weren't interested in watching the shadow recede.</p>

<div class="PlainText">We survived the eclipse! We had 200 pair of glasses to pass out (after<br>
sharing our stock with other libraries) and did limit to 2 per family at our<br>
event starting at 1:00 today. Everyone was patient and accepted our 2 pair<br>
limit and we had over 500 people in attendance at our "little" library (not<br>
everyone stayed here to view the eclipse). Our parking lot was full of<br>
people--local and from outside our area--- sharing glasses to watch the<br>
eclipse for over an hour and a half. It did help that we fed them snacks of<br>
Little Debbie's "Moonpies, Cosmic Brownies, and Star Crunchs".<br>
<br>
While they all had fun, the staff is glad to no longer have to answer the<br>
phone calls asking about the glasses.<br>

We're glad it's over!<br>

We made it!!<br>
We received 200 pairs of glasses and only passed them out at our 2 programs.<br>
<br>
The first program was last month and 40 attended, so that left us 150 pairs<br>
for today. We held strong and did not pass any out ahead of time (whew,<br>
that was hard!).<br>
We expected maybe 100 people. We had activities such as coloring pages, word<br>
search, galaxy slime, plus moon themed snacks and of course the coveted<br>
eclipse glasses. We ended up with more than 300 in attendance with many<br>
waiting in line for 30 minutes or more to receive their glasses. We ran out<br>
in the end and the last groups had to share. <br>
The best thing about the day, besides the awesome turnout, was the fact that<br>
almost all were very respectful, calm, and willing to share. <br>
I hope your day went as well as ours! <br>
