The Michigan History Alliance program is a benefit for HSM member organizations and was established to help those entities preserve and promote history by fostering collaboration, sharing information and best practices, and providing training for their staff and volunteers.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent:0.5in;line-height:150%"><img width="345" height="345" src="cid:image001.jpg@01D2F6FE.D6302050" align="right" hspace="10" vspace="19" style="margin-left:9px"><span style="font-family:'times new roman' , 'serif'">Ten regional Alliances, which will meet twice a year, have been formed to bring together representatives from history museums, historic sites, historical societies and archives. The ten regions are Southeastern, Metro-Detroit, Southwestern, Great Lakes Bay and Thumb Area, Central, Western, Northern, Eastern Upper Peninsula, Central Upper Peninsula, and Western Upper Peninsula.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent:0.5in;line-height:150%"><span style="font-family:'times new roman' , 'serif'">The Alliance meetings will take place in the morning and consist of a networking and collaboration session that allows for conversations among the region’s historical organizations. Along with the networking portion of the meeting, which will be facilitated by HSM Assistant Director for Education Programs and Events Robert Myers, a speaker will present on a topic of interest. Michigan History Alliance networking sessions are free of charge for current member organizations of HSM. Membership is required for participation.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent:0.5in;line-height:150%"><span style="font-family:'times new roman' , 'serif'">To further the educational experience of the Alliance meetings, a separate three-hour History Skills Workshop will be offered in the afternoon. Taught by authorities in the field, the History Skills Workshops provide in-depth training on such topics as exhibit design, collections management, fundraising and websites. There is a fee to attend the History Skills Workshops, which are open to members and nonmembers alike.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent:0.5in;line-height:150%"><span style="font-family:'times new roman' , 'serif'">Upcoming meetings include the Southwestern region on August 2, 2017, at The Heritage Museum & Cultural Center in St. Joseph; the Great Lakes Bay and Thumb Area region on October 11, 2017, at the Historical Museum of Bay County in Bay City; the Western region on October 18, 2017, at the Caledonia Library Branch in Caledonia; and the Southeastern region on October 25, 2017, at the Old Mill Museum in Dundee.
