<b>Subject:</b> Michigan Shared Print Initiative (MI-SPI): Gold Rush Demonstration, March 27<o:p></o:p></span></p>
</div>

<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Dear Academic Colleagues, since 2011, a group of Michigan academic libraries have participated in the shared print initiative known as MI-SPI (Michigan Shared Print Initiative). The purpose of MI-SPI is the ensure the availability of print
books throughout the state. Library collections are analyzed using a specialized software called GreenGlass. The software creates retention lists of print book titles each library should keep in order to maintain availability of print titles in the state.
Libraries commit to keeping these titles, allowing other libraries to weed them from their collections, knowing titles are available elsewhere and can be obtained through MeLCat. Of course, there are many more details to how MI-SPI works and is implemented,
but this is the basic premise of the program. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="xmsonormal">The software used to accomplish this work, GreenGlass, is an excellent, but expensive OCLC product. On Monday, March 27, 1-2pmEST, MI-SPI will host a demonstration of an alternate software, Gold Rush. This more affordable, but not as sophisticated,
software was developed by the Colorado Alliance of Research Libraries (CARL). George Machovec, Executive Director of CARL, will conduct the demo as a first step toward considering moving from GreenGlass as the software used by MI-SPI. All interested libraries
are invited to attend this demonstration. Please send a message to <a href="mailto:services@mcls.org">
services@mcls.org</a> if you want to attend and obtain Zoom access information. For more information about MI-SPI in general, please visit the
<a href="https://www.mcls.org/engagement/mi-spi/">MCLS MI-SPI web page</a>. <o:p>
